Job Summary:
Requirement: Must be at least 21 years of age, able to support and oversee restaurant operations during assigned shifts, open and/or close the restaurant, follow management direction, and work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Reports: General Manager
The Shift Lead supports restaurant operations during assigned shifts by supervising team members, opening or closing the restaurant as assigned, and assisting with efficient and smooth operations. The Shift Lead role is intended to support management and operational needs during scheduled shifts. Training for the role will be provided.
Shift Leads do not have authority to issue formal discipline, approve pay changes, modify schedules, or make employment decisions. All corrective actions and final decisions are reviewed and approved by Management.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Serve as a designated key holder when assigned, including responsibility for opening and/or closing the restaurant and securing the facility in accordance with company standards.
- Work with Managers and SR Cooks on shift schedules for team members to ensure adequate staffing.
- Monitor team attendance, manage tardiness, and assist with requests for time off.
- Help managers with specific duties to employees based on their roles and skills.
- Provide direct supervision, assist employees with tasks as needed, and step in to cover for absences.
- Help Managers and Supervisor with performance reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members.
- Address and report to Management employee requests and disciplinary issues in accordance with company policy.
- Help Train new and existing team members on restaurant procedures and responsibilities.
- Handle customer concerns and manage conflict resolution effectively.
- Uphold company policies and ensure compliance with health, safety, and employment standards.
- Assist and Balance cash drawers, conduct cash drops, and prepare daily cash deposits.
- Open or close the restaurant as assigned, including securing the facility and safeguarding company property.
- Lead by example during assigned shifts through professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and adherence to company policies and standards.
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Skills and Qualifications:
- Interest in pursuing a management role within approximately one (1) year
- Minimum age of 21 years
- Availability to work a minimum of two (2) days per week as a Shift Lead; no guarantee of weekly Lead shift allotment
- Minimum six (6) month commitment in the Shift Lead role
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Effective leadership abilities, including decision-making, motivation, and goal-setting.
- Problem-solving expertise with attention to detail and effective resolution skills.
- Strong organizational and time management capabilities.
- Ability to work well as part of a team and collaborate with employees at all levels.
- In-depth knowledge of the hospitality industry and relevant regulations.
- Proficiency in using point-of-sale systems, scheduling software, and basic workplace technology.
- Basic math skills for handling financial transactions.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum six (6) months of employment with no active progressive discipline
- Demonstrates the ability to ask for assistance when needed and supports others as appropriate
- Consistently contributes to a positive and productive work environment by role modeling exemplary employee behavior and overall performance
- High school diploma or GED is required; an associate degree in business or management is a plus.
- Previous experience in the food service industry or hospitality setting is required.
- Prior leadership experience is preferred but not mandatory.
- ServSafe certification
- Equivalent food safety training is a plus.
