Founded in 1989, Eccezion is a full-service CPA, business consulting, technology, and marketing services firm. Our team includes more than 60 professionals across seven departments, with offices in McHenry and Barrington and employees working remotely from various states.
Our CPA professionals provide accounting, tax, payroll, audit, review, compilation, and advisory services. We serve a diverse client base that includes individuals, businesses, employee benefit plans, nonprofit organizations, municipalities, libraries, fire protection districts, cities, school districts, and other governmental entities.
We are currently seeking a full-time Audit Accountant to join our Audit and Assurance team, with a primary focus on government and nonprofit engagements.
Position Overview
The Audit Accountant will support the planning, execution, and completion of audit and assurance engagements for nonprofit organizations and governmental entities.
This role is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys analyzing financial information, working directly with clients, and contributing to a collaborative team environment. Depending on experience, the Audit Accountant may independently manage portions of engagements while receiving mentorship and support from experienced team members.
Responsibilities
- Perform audit fieldwork for government and nonprofit clients
- Assist with the planning, execution, and completion of audit engagements
- Prepare accurate and well-organized audit workpapers and supporting documentation
- Review financial records, transactions, account balances, and internal controls
- Identify discrepancies, potential risks, and opportunities for process improvement
- Assist with the preparation of financial statements and related disclosures
- Communicate with clients to request documentation and resolve questions
- Participate in audits, reviews, compilations, and other assurance engagements
- Maintain engagement timelines and ensure applicable deadlines are met
- Collaborate with partners, managers, and other members of the audit team
- Stay current on relevant accounting and auditing standards
- Provide responsive, professional service to clients
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field required
- Previous accounting or audit experience preferred
- Public accounting experience preferred
- Experience with government or nonprofit accounting and auditing strongly preferred
- Knowledge of accounting and financial procedures
- Familiarity with GAAP and auditing standards
- CPA license or progress toward CPA licensure is a plus
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Experience with QuickBooks or other accounting software preferred
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to organize multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

Overtime during busy seasons is typically limited to approximately 10 additional hours per week and generally lasts only a few weeks.
