The Kitchen Helper is responsible for washing dishes, pots and pans, storing dishes, and keeping dishwashing area clean. May also be responsible for plating and/or serving meals to residents’ tables or residents’ rooms following company procedures in a courteous and friendly manner.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Interacts with residents and staff in a professional, friendly and compassionate manner at all times.

Washes dishes, pots and pans; stores dishes.

Keeps dishwashing area clean and organized.

Puts away delivered food products.

Assists with cleaning the kitchen.

Assists with minor food preparation, such as cutting or chopping vegetables, assembling salads.

Knows daily menu selections.

Performs server duties as needed:

Correctly takes resident orders.
-
Greets residents/guests at each table or residents’ individual room and serves beverages, cereals, soups, salads, main courses, and desserts.

Clears dishes from tables and resets after sanitizing tables and chairs.

Restocks table caddies with condiments.

Vacuums carpets and/or mops floors in dining room between meal service.

Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Demonstrates high standards of ethics and personal accountability.

Follows all OSHA, Fire, Health Department and safety requirements.

Job requires walking and standing for extended periods of time.

Push, pull, lift up to 50 lbs.
Qualifications
- Must have the ability obtain a food handlers certificate as required.
- Ability to present meal and menu alternatives to residents and guests.
- General knowledge of sanitation and safe food handling practices.
- Effectively communicate in English with residents, guests, and co-workers.
- Drive, desire, and willingness to learn.
- Must have basic computer skills.
- Meet the assigned time requirements as scheduled by supervisor.
- Regular attendance is required.
Working Conditions
- Requires interaction with co-workers, residents, resident families and guests.
- May require working with challenging residents.
- Likely requires weekend, evening, and holiday shifts.
- Possible exposure to communicable diseases and infections.
