POSITION SUMMARY:
The Production Coordinator supports and helps lead daily manufacturing operations across the printing, packaging, direct mail, flexographic, wide format, and commercial bindery departments where applicable while helping to deliver high-quality products on time, at target cost, and with maximum operational efficiency. This role partners with plant leadership to coordinate production activities, maintain all S1 standards of work, develop/manage schedules to departmental manning, work to remove constraints, and optimize workflow across departments. The position provides hands-on support leadership to supervisors and production teams.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Develop and maintain daily/weekly production schedules based on job orders, deadlines, material availability, and capacity.
- Coordinate with Project Management, Prepress, Production, Shipping, and Plant Leadership to ensure on-time delivery of all jobs.
- Monitor WIP and throughput; identify bottlenecks and proactively resolve scheduling conflicts or delays.
- Maintain accurate job status, lead times, and schedule data; ensure schedule changes are communicated and documented.
- Lead daily production meetings. Communicate clearly with internal teams regarding changes to the schedule.
- Assist with process improvements to streamline workflow and improve turnaround times.
- Assist supervisors/managers with staffing plans, resource allocation, and shift coverage; help address attendance, training needs, and performance issues.
- Monitor key metrics (scrap, rework, labor efficiency, downtime, throughput) and lead/participate in problem-solving and corrective actions.
- Reinforce safety requirements (PPE, LOTO where applicable, housekeeping/5S) and support incident investigations and countermeasures.
- Partner with Maintenance to plan PM activities, coordinate repairs, and reduce unplanned downtime; escalate risks proactively.
- Support quality system execution including inspections, documentation, and containment of quality issues; ensure corrective actions are sustained.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste, improve flow, and strengthen standard work and training across processes.
- The role will communicate with other Production Coordinators to move work between facilities to meet production needs/customer due dates.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in business, graphic/print, supply chain, or related field preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in manufacturing operations or production planning with demonstrated leadership responsibility.
- Experience and understanding workflow of a print/converting manufacturing process while coordinating and communication WIP across production departments.
- Working knowledge of Lean principles and good problem-solving skill sets (e.g., 5-Why).
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and decision-making skills with the ability to prioritize changing demands and remove operational constraints delegate and follow through in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with basic computer skills with working knowledge in Excel.
