Job Overview
We are seeking an energetic and passionate After-School Program Chef Instructor to inspire young minds through the culinary arts and creative expression. In this dynamic role, you will lead engaging culinary classes that foster creativity, teamwork, and life skills among children and youth. Your expertise will help cultivate a positive learning environment where students develop their culinary talents, artistic abilities, and confidence. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to demonstrate culinary skills in a vibrant community setting. This program runs on the consecutive Fridays starting September through May at SUSD in Modesto, CA. The hours vary depending on the school, 4-5 hours from 2:00-6:00pm.
Responsibilities
- Lead hands-on culinary classes focusing on nutrition, food safety, and culinary techniques suitable for children and youth of various ages.
- Manage classroom activities to ensure a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment that promotes positive behavior and active participation.
- Utilize classroom management strategies to maintain order while encouraging creativity and self-expression among students.
- Support students’ social-emotional growth through mentorship, behavior management, and fostering teamwork during projects and performances.
Experience
- Prior experience working with children in educational or youth program settings is essential.
- Experience managing classrooms or group activities with a focus on behavior management and childhood development principles.
- Culinary experience related to lesson planning for kids’ culinary classes or preschool culinary activities is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with tutoring or adult education methods can be an asset when working with diverse age groups.
Requirements
- California Food Handler's certificate
- Child Abuse Mandated Reporter certificate
- Bachelor's degree, in any field
