DSP Requirements include:

Have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Be 18 years of age or older.
-
With EHCA's assistance, the ability to obtain all clearances as required to meet regulatory compliance. This includes Act 33 (PA child abuse), Act 34 (PA criminal background check, Act 73 FBI fingerprint clearance, and the National Sex Offender Database. For applicants who have lived out of state in the last 2 years, the Department of Aging clearance is required.
A typical day could include activities like these:

Feed, bathe, dress, and provide all personal care for individuals.

Record all necessary information, observations, and daily progress notes.

Accompany and transport individuals for social, work, shopping, meal, and medical appointments.

Be a positive role model to individuals, neighbors, and the community regarding behavior, dress, and respect for others. Provide support and help individuals manage day-to-day activities.

Transport the individuals in Agency and personal vehicles when needed.

Responsible for implementing emergency treatment and life-saving techniques to the extent that training and Agency protocol allow.

Responsible for the care and upkeep of facilities.

Required to administer medications to residents following completion of the Agency’s Medication Administration Training Program.
