The School District of Lodi is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Payroll Specialist to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing the end-to-end payroll process, ensuring accurate and timely compensation for all employees. Your expertise in payroll management systems and accounting software will be essential in maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to our organization’s financial health while supporting our human resources initiatives. This is a full-time position, working 260 days per year.
Responsibilities
Essential responsibilities of this position include:
- Semi-monthly payroll completion, including reconciling and paying deductions for: Income taxes, WRS, FICA, and other authorized deductions
- Maintaining and updating employee records, which include benefits administration, banking, and tax information
- Collaborating with human resources and finance teams on payroll-related inquiries, audits, and reporting requirements
- Supporting month-end closing activities
- Filing appropriate government reports/payments: State & Federal Tax, Unemployment Compensation, Wisconsin Retirement System, W2’s, and OSHA
- Preparing payroll-related materials as requested by third-party auditing firm
- Oversight of Family & Medical Leave Act, Tax Sheltered Annuities, District-sponsored insurance plans, etc.
Qualifications
The successful candidate should have the following qualifications:
- 2-year degree in Accounting/Business Management or 4-year degree in a relevant field
- Proven experience with payroll management systems. Experience with Skyward is a plus
- Knowledge of tax regulations related to payroll processing and benefits administration
- Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively across departments
- Technical proficiencies, including computing skills, Google, and Microsoft
- Strong communication and written skills, problem-solving skills, and organizational skills
- Strong math skills, accuracy, and attention to detail
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
