Duties
- Safely operate a variety of commercial trucks, including tractor-trailers with manual transmissions, ensuring compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards.
- Plan routes using GPS navigation systems to optimize delivery schedules and fuel efficiency.
- Load and unload freight using manual handling techniques or equipment such as forklifts, ensuring proper securing of cargo like hazardous materials, dangerous goods, or specialty loads such as refrigerated or flatbed shipments.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles to identify maintenance needs and ensure safety standards are met.
- Deliver freight accurately across designated routes, managing logistics cargo handling for various types of loads including tanker, roll-off trucks, dump trucks, or freight requiring route driving expertise.
- Maintain detailed logs of driving hours, cargo documentation, inspection reports, and delivery confirmations in compliance with FMCSA and DOT regulations.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch teams and clients to coordinate pickups and deliveries while providing exceptional customer service.
Skills
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving with a valid CDL A license; familiarity with manual transmission trucks is essential.
- Strong knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT requirements, hazardous materials regulations, and safety protocols for transporting dangerous goods.
- Skilled in operating specialized equipment such as forklifts or dump trucks when necessary for loading or unloading cargo.
- Excellent route planning skills utilizing GPS navigation tools to ensure efficient deliveries.
- Ability to handle physically demanding tasks including manual handling of freight and securement of loads on flatbeds or refrigerated trailers.
- Experience with different truck types like tanker trucks or roll-off trucks is a plus.
- Good communication skills for coordinating with clients, dispatchers, and safety personnel; attention to detail for accurate documentation.
