Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Housing Specialist to join our team and make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families experiencing housing challenges. In this role, you will serve as a vital resource, providing comprehensive support to clients by connecting them with affordable housing options, ensuring compliance with housing regulations, and facilitating access to community resources. Your proactive approach and compassionate communication will empower clients to achieve stability and independence through tailored assistance and advocacy.
Responsibilities
- Assist clients in navigating housing programs such as Section 8 and other subsidized housing options, ensuring they understand eligibility requirements and application processes.
- Conduct thorough assessments of client needs, including crisis intervention when necessary, to develop personalized housing plans.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Fair Housing regulations, landlord-tenant law, LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit) properties, and other relevant policies to ensure compliance.
- Negotiate lease agreements and coordinate with property management teams to facilitate smooth placements for clients.
- Provide ongoing support through motivational interviewing techniques and social work principles to promote client engagement and goal achievement.
- Utilize property management software such as Yardi or OneSite to document client interactions, track case progress, and manage housing data efficiently.
- Respond promptly to crises related to housing instability or tenant issues, employing crisis management skills to de-escalate situations effectively.
Requirements
- Proven experience or education in social work, addiction counseling, or related fields focused on housing stability or community support services.
- Strong knowledge of landlord-tenant law, Fair Housing regulations, LIHTC programs, Section 8 policies, and property management practices.
- Excellent negotiation skills with the ability to advocate effectively on behalf of clients.
- Familiarity with Yardi or OneSite property management platforms is preferred.
- Ability to handle crisis situations with professionalism and sensitivity while providing crisis intervention and crisis management support.
- Effective communication skills, including motivational interviewing techniques, to foster trust and motivate positive change in clients.
- Knowledge of addiction counseling principles is a plus for supporting clients facing substance use challenges related to housing stability.
