Performs a variety of standardized tests, including advanced and specialized tests appropriate to the discipline of the assigned laboratory section. Obtains specimens where necessary. Prepares the specimen and decides the suitability of the specimen for the requested test. Prepares reagents. Performs tests, determines and calculates results. Reviews results for accuracy. Maintains proper records. Discusses methods and general procedures. Investigates alternative procedures, where appropriate, and reviews results with the supervisor. May assume supervisory capabilities in the absence of the immediate supervisor. Evaluates new test methods and instrumentation
Minimum Education Requirements for Lab Scientist: Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or in chemical, physical, or biological science with clinical education, which includes one year of internship.
Minimum Experience Requirement: None
Minimum License Requirement: WV Laboratory License as a Medical Technologist. ASCP certification within 12 months of employment.
Minimum Education Requirements for MT/MLT: Associate’s degree as a Medical Laboratory Technician.

Minimum License Requirement: WV State license as a Laboratory Technician. ASCP Certification within 12 months of hire.

Medium Work: Frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs with a maximum lifting
