GIS Manager
Department: Land Survey and Mapping
Reports To: Director of Land Surveying and Mapping
Position Summary
The GIS Manager is responsible for leading the company's Geographic Information Systems (GIS) program and supervising the GIS team within the Land Survey and Mapping Department. This position provides leadership for GIS operations, enterprise GIS initiatives, client projects, and technical staff while ensuring the delivery of high-quality geospatial solutions.
The GIS Manager serves as both a technical leader and project manager, overseeing multiple projects from proposal through completion while mentoring GIS Analysts, developing standards and workflows, and supporting business development. This role works collaboratively with surveyors, engineers, planners, environmental professionals, and clients to deliver innovative geospatial solutions that enhance project outcomes and support the company's strategic goals.
Leadership & Department Management
· Lead and manage the GIS program within the Land Survey and Mapping Department.
· Supervise, mentor, and develop GIS Analysts and GIS Technicians.
· Establish department goals, priorities, and performance expectations.
· Conduct coaching, performance evaluations, and career development planning.
· Assign workloads and manage staff utilization across multiple projects.
· Participate in recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and retention efforts.
· Promote a collaborative culture focused on quality, innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Project Management
· Manage multiple GIS projects from proposal through completion.
· Develop project scopes, schedules, budgets, staffing plans, and resource allocations.
· Monitor project quality, profitability, and schedule.
· Coordinate multidisciplinary project teams.
· Maintain strong client communication and documentation.
GIS Operations
· Develop enterprise GIS standards, workflows, and QA/QC procedures.
· Manage ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, and enterprise geodatabases.
· Develop web maps, dashboards, mobile applications, and GIS services.
· Evaluate and implement emerging GIS technologies.
Technical Responsibilities
· Perform advanced spatial analysis and geoprocessing.
· Develop automation using Python, ArcPy, ArcGIS API for Python, SQL, and ModelBuilder.
· Integrate GIS with SQL Server and enterprise systems.
· Manage LiDAR, drone imagery, GPS, and other geospatial datasets.
Client Relations & Business Development
· Serve as the primary GIS contact for clients and project teams.
· Assist with proposals, fee estimates, and technical presentations.
· Identify opportunities to expand GIS services.
Supervisory Responsibilities
· Directly supervise GIS Analysts and GIS Technicians.
· Review technical work for quality and accuracy.
· Support employee development, training, and mentoring.
· Manage department workloads and resource allocation.
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Geospatial Science, Surveying, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
· Minimum 7 years of professional GIS experience.
· Minimum 3 years of project management experience.
· Minimum 2 years supervising technical staff.
Preferred Qualifications
· GISP Certification
· Project Management Professional (PMP)
· Esri Technical Certifications
· FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate
· Experience with SQL Server, LiDAR, 3D GIS, Reality Capture, and cloud GIS.

Pay: $85,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
