Job Summary (Must live within 20 minutes commute of downtown Akron)
The ideal candidate will be responsible for responding to service calls, safely towing vehicles, and providing roadside assistance when needed. In addition to field work, this role includes general shop support such as cleaning the work area, maintaining the cleanliness of trucks, and dismantling scrap vehicles for parts or recycling. This position requires excellent driving skills, mechanical awareness, and a customer-service-oriented attitude.
Duties
- Respond promptly to dispatch calls for towing and roadside assistance.
- Safely operate a variety of tow trucks (flatbed, wheel-lift, or hook-and-chain) to transport vehicles to specified locations.
- Secure vehicles properly to the truck to prevent damage during transport.
- Provide roadside services such as jump starts, tire changes, lockouts, and fuel delivery when required.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with dispatchers, customers, law enforcement, and other stakeholders.
- Occasionally assist with dispatching and/or taking phone calls.
- Perform general shop maintenance and support duties, including cleaning work areas, maintaining the cleanliness of company trucks, and assisting in the dismantling and processing of scrap vehicles for parts or recycling.
- Inspect tow trucks before and after shifts to ensure operational safety (e.g., lights, brakes, hydraulics).
- Complete all required paperwork, including tow slips, receipts, and damage reports.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the truck and equipment.
- Follow all traffic laws, DOT regulations, and company safety protocols.
- Represent the company professionally and courteously at all times.
- Participate in on-call schedule (Usually once to twice a week)
Experience
- Proven experience as a Tow Truck Driver or in a similar role is strongly preferred.
- Must have a clean driving record.
