Full Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Underwriting Manager to lead our mortgage underwriting team at Right Start Mortgage. The successful candidate will play a key role in overseeing and optimizing the underwriting process, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and a seamless workflow from application to approval.

Responsibilities:

Team Leadership:
- Lead and inspire a team of underwriters, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure high performance and collaboration.
- Foster a positive and inclusive team culture that aligns with company values.
Operational Oversight:
- Manage and supervise daily mortgage underwriting operations, ensuring adherence to company policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement streamlined procedures.
Quality Assurance:
- Implement and oversee quality control measures to ensure accuracy and consistency in underwriting decisions.
- Conduct regular audits to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.
Risk Management:
- Evaluate and mitigate potential risks associated with mortgage loan applications.
- Provide guidance on complex or exceptional cases, ensuring consistent and well-documented underwriting decisions.
Communication and Coordination:
- Serve as a key point of contact for internal stakeholders, including loan officers, processors, and senior management, to address inquiries and provide guidance.
- Collaborate with other departments to optimize cross-functional processes.
Training and Development:
- Provide training and ongoing development opportunities for underwriting team members.
- Ensure team members stay informed about changes in industry regulations and company policies.
Reporting and Analysis:
- Analyze operational performance metrics, underwriting trends, and key performance indicators to identify areas for improvement.
- Generate regular reports for senior management to inform decision-making.

Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or a related field (MBA is a plus).
Proven experience in mortgage underwriting management.
Strong leadership and team management skills.
In-depth knowledge of mortgage products, regulations, and industry best practices.
Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
