SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the school nurse supervisor, is responsible for providing nursing services to the Windsor Locks school system.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Collaborates with appropriate school personnel to assess, review, and monitor the healthcare needs of students receiving medication and other health-related services.

Provides professional nursing consultation and guidance by telephone, as needed, regarding student health concerns and medical management.

Implements and maintains district policies and procedures

Conducts monthly reviews of all medication administration records and related health documentation to ensure accuracy, compliance, and continuity of care.

Assesses, manages, and responds to student illness, injury, and emergency health situations within the school setting while promoting student health, safety, and well-being.

Provides health counseling and education to students regarding personal health, hygiene, disease prevention, and wellness-related concerns, as appropriate.

Refers students for further medical evaluation and coordinates parent/guardian notification and student dismissal when illness or injury warrants exclusion from school.

Participates, as needed, in multidisciplinary team meetings, pupil study teams, 504's, and other student support meetings to address student health and educational needs.

Reviews physician orders and changes in medical treatment plans and administers medications and treatments in accordance with written physician orders and standing orders authorized by the district medical advisor.

Performs professional nursing duties and responsibilities as assigned by the School Nurse Supervisor in support of comprehensive school health services.

Provides direction, oversight, and delegations to LPN's and other designated health office personnel, as appropriate.

Maintains accurate health records and prepares reports, health communications, and related documentation consistent with professional nursing practice and district requirements.

Provides health services and performs additional responsibilities customarily associated with the role of the school nurse to support the physical, emotional, and educational well-being of students.

Familiar with feed tubes, diabetics and seizures.
Performs other duties as appropriate and required.
Qualifications: Must have active Connecticut RN Nursing License.
