Membership Advisor
Pay Range: $16.83 – $21.63 per hour (equivalent to $35,000 – $45,000 annually plus commission). This role includes a structured progression path with multiple pay levels based on performance, tenure, and demonstrated competencies. Commission opportunities are available in accordance with company policy.
Objective: Responsible for producing new sales by enrolling prospective members. Actively participate in the member retention process by providing an excellent level of service to all existing members and supporting the club, its programs, members, and staff.
Reports To: General Manager
Criteria: Minimum 1 year sales experience required. Customer relations and fitness experience preferred. Red Cross CPR/AED certification required within 60 days of hire. In accordance with Virginia law, salary history will not be requested or used in the hiring process. Must follow all Service Standards and club policies.

Greet members and guests with a welcoming, friendly, energetic, and positive attitude always. Use members’ and guests’ names whenever possible.

Know and adhere to policies outlined in training and policy manuals. Know club emergency response protocol and be prepared to act. Exercise sound judgment with safety as a priority.

Abide by the Service Standards set for your department and club.

Attend mandatory meetings.

Arrive 5 minutes early in proper uniform.

Read and acknowledge communications delivered from management.

Provide effective facility tours to prospective members and guests, determining their needs and matching them with the appropriate membership.

Follow up with prospects who do not join within 48 hours via phone and/or written correspondence.

When not touring, generating new sales leads through prospecting. Continue to work all leads and member referrals. Make a minimum of 50 touches per day and maintain required daily appointments. Collect an average of 3 referrals per new member sale.

Make daily calls/touches/contacts to current or former members to assist with retention and drive self‑generated leads.

Review relevant sales materials and participate in weekly sales meetings to enhance performance.

Meet monthly individual and team goals. Failure to meet individual goals for three consecutive months may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Complete all membership paperwork and computer entries accurately and promptly in Intouch & Compete, maintaining proficiency with all required paper and electronic forms and processes.

Maintain accurate personal commission records.

Work as part of the management team to provide high‑level customer service, leadership to staff, and assist in directing club operations when management is not present. Handle member situations, freezes, questions, and concerns effectively.

Participate in planning and implementing all promotions.

Always uphold all policies, including but not limited to: company handbook, guest policies, UPS list rules, and team expectations set forth in past and future sales meetings.

Develop and maintain adequate knowledge of fitness and its benefits, equipment, activities, group exercise classes, kids’ programs, etc.

Selling by Walking Around (SBWA) with purpose—engage members you know and introduce yourself to those you do not.

Input and manage your weekly work schedule in the club’s scheduling platform by established deadlines, maintaining full accountability for schedule accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to club staffing need
