Journeyman Service Plumber, Truckee and North Lake Tahoe
Some plumbers do their best work with nobody watching. This is the other kind of job.
Brimer has been the plumber for Truckee and North Lake Tahoe homes since 1997. We're a small crew under new ownership. Most of our work is in occupied homes, many of them second homes whose owners are not here half the year. Being the person the homeowner trusts in their house is as much the job as the plumbing.
The work
You run a service truck from Truckee through Tahoe City and Tahoma. Leaks, water heaters, fixtures, angle stops, hose bibs, supply lines, gas line work, and a growing amount of drain and repipe work.
You walk the whole house, not just the fixture you were called about. Then you tell the homeowner everything you found, what it means, and what each fix would take. They choose. Maybe that is the one toilet. Maybe it is four sinks and a tub. Maybe it is a repipe. All of those are good days. We do not push, and we do not accept a Brimer customer hearing about a problem from the next plumber who walks in.
Flat rate, priced by the job. Every diagnostic visit ends with a summary to the customer so they can decide on their own time.
What we're looking for
Roughly in the order we're screening for it.
- Comfortable selling, and not apologetic about it. A water heater goes down and you can put all three in front of the homeowner in the same conversation: go tankless, replace the tank, or repair what's there. Say each number out loud without flinching and let them pick.
- You like people. A good part of this job is standing in somebody's kitchen talking, and the plumbers who are happy here are the ones who enjoy that part rather than endure it.
- Able to explain a repair to someone with no trade background, and willing to answer the fifth question
- Journeyman-level residential service experience
- Comfortable with gas, including running and repairing gas lines
- Solid on code and clean workmanship
- Housecall Pro on your phone for jobs, notes, photos, invoicing
- Valid driver's license, clean record
- Fine with crawlspaces, attics, ladders, and lifting
- Lives in or can commute to Truckee/North Lake Tahoe
Where we are right now
Worth being straight with you. The name has been on trucks here since 1997, we have a great legacy and steller reputation around town, but the company behind it is being built out again under new ownership, and you'd be joining early in that.
Some things are already solid. Pricing is set, so you're not making up numbers. The job software is dialed in. The trucks get stocked. Other things are not built yet, and you will run into them. When you do, we would rather hear "this would work better another way" than watch you work around it quietly.
The last tech we brought on came in at this same stage and has had a hand in how we run since. That is the pattern we're trying to repeat.
Small does not mean cheap. The pay below is real, we put money into trucks, tools, and the people running them rather than sitting on it, and we intend to add crew as the work supports it. Whoever takes this seat is at the front of that.
Pay, schedule, and what we provide
$55 to $75 per hour base depending on experience, plus bonus on sold work. Monday through Friday, regular business hours. Truck, tools, and fuel card.
