This half-time position can be organized according to your preference; either a focus on teaching Humanities for grades 3 - Middle School, or teaching the full general studies curriculum to students in 3rd - 5th grades. We are a small private school in Lake Oswego with an outstanding cohort of supportive and collaborative staff, families, and community. You could arrange to teach in the mornings or afternoons. Our students thrive on challenging, engaging work. Duties
- Design and deliver engaging, challenging instruction that meets or exceeds standards utilizing a variety of teaching modalities and stresses subject matter integration, individual responsibilty, and collaboration.
- Assess student progress through standardized testing, formative assessments, and informal observations; adjust instruction accordingly.
- Manage classroom behavior effectively through Responsive Classroom techniques to create a safe, independent, productive and joyful learning environment.
- Provide differentiated instruction to students with varying abilities.
- Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and support staff to coordinate curriculum development, classroom activities, and student progress reports.
- Occasionally attend events beyond school hours, such as monthly staff meetings, parent-teacher conferences, school celebrations, etc.
Requirements
- Previous successful classroom experience with elementary students.
- Comprehensive knowledge of curriculum development, lesson planning, and instructional techniques.
- Excellent communication skills, including speaking and writing, for effective collaboration with colleagues, parents, and students’ families.
- Relevant certifications in teaching is desirable.
