GENERAL SUMMARY
The Grants Officer is responsible for identifying, securing, and managing grant funding opportunities to increase financial support for St. Matthew’s House programs and services. This role serves as a key relationship builder between St. Matthew’s House and foundation, church, business, and government grant partners, aligning funding opportunities with our mission to serve individuals experiencing hunger, homelessness, and addiction. The position collaborates closely with development, finance, outreach, and program teams to support grant proposals, grant compliance, outcomes tracking, reporting, and stewardship. St. Matthew’s House is a faith-based 501(c)(3) charitable organization that exists to transform lives in a compassionate and disciplined environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Grant Strategy & Proposal Development

Assist in implementation and execution of the organization’s grant strategy, including preparing and submitting grant proposals and reports.

Research prospective grantors and identify funding opportunities aligned with the organization’s mission and program needs.

Track progress of grant proposals and support follow-up strategies between submission and decision.
Grant Management & Compliance

Ensure compliance with grant regulations, requirements, timelines, and deliverables.

Manage outcomes tracking and reporting processes to support grant compliance, performance measurement, and timely submission of required reports.

Effectively manage the grant database, including timelines, deliverables, proposals, reports, and engagement history.
Internal Collaboration

Work closely with program, finance, development, and leadership staff to gather information needed for grant development and reporting.

Support the Director of Institutional Giving & Grants in cultivating and stewarding foundation, church, business, and government grant relationships.

Help the Development team determine funding needs that can be supported through grant opportunities.
Donor & Community Engagement

Support the Development department by leading campus tours for donors, representing the organization at community functions or speaking engagements, and assisting with special events as needed.

Build relationships through thoughtful grant administrator cultivation and stewardship processes.
Requirements:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree required
Experience: Grant writing experience preferred. Experience managing federal, state, or local grants preferred. Experience establishing and executing priorities and achieving stated goals is necessary for this role. Experience working with foundations, development departments, high-net-worth individuals, and private family foundations preferred. Experience with Raiser’s Edge or a comparable donor management system preferred.

Skills & Working Conditions: Flexibility in work hours; this position requires some evening work and travel. Must be able to conduct research, gather data, analyze information, prepare accurate and timely reports, manage complex activities, foster effective working relationships, and communicate effectively with leadership, prospects, donors, volunteers, and community partners.
Relatively little physical effort is required; however, the employee must be able to move about the facility and possess the manual dexterity required to operate a computer and other business equipment.
