Position Summary
Kingsborough Early College Secondary School is seeking an engaging and dedicated 8th Grade Social Studies Teacher to provide rigorous, standards-aligned instruction that develops students' understanding of U.S. history, civics, geography, economics, and current events. The ideal candidate will foster critical thinking, historical inquiry, literacy skills, and civic engagement while creating an inclusive classroom environment that supports the success of all learners.
Essential ResponsibilitiesInstruction and Curriculum
- Plan and deliver engaging social studies lessons aligned with the New York State Social Studies Framework and learning standards.
- Teach 8th-grade U.S. History and Government content, including historical analysis, civic participation, and constitutional principles.
- Incorporate primary and secondary source documents, research activities, and project-based learning.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including multilingual learners and students with disabilities.
- Integrate literacy, writing, technology, and critical-thinking skills into daily instruction.
Assessment and Student Progress
- Develop and administer formative and summative assessments to monitor student learning.
- Analyze student performance data and use findings to inform instructional decisions.
- Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, and student progress.
- Provide timely feedback and academic support to students and families.
Classroom Environment
- Establish and maintain a positive, safe, and inclusive classroom culture.
- Promote respectful discussion of historical and contemporary issues.
- Utilize effective classroom management practices that maximize student engagement and learning.
- Foster strong relationships with students and families.
Collaboration and Professional Responsibilities
- Collaborate with grade-level teams, special education staff, school counselors, and instructional leaders.
- Participate in professional development, faculty meetings, and school improvement initiatives.
- Support school events, family engagement activities, and extracurricular programs as assigned.
- Adhere to all NYC Public Schools policies, procedures, and professional expectations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Valid New York State Teaching Certification in Social Studies (Grades 7-12) or a related certification area.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. History, civics, geography, and middle school instructional practices.
- Excellent classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
- Commitment to educational equity and student achievement.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Education, Social Studies, History, Political Science, or a related field.
- Experience teaching middle school social studies.
- Familiarity with New York State Social Studies standards and assessments.
- Experience integrating educational technology into instruction.
- Ability to lead student clubs, academic enrichment programs, or civic engagement activities.

Salary and Benefits
- Salary Range: Approximately $68,902 to $123,939+ annually, based on education level, years of experience, and applicable salary differentials under the NYC Public Schools/UFT salary schedule. Starting salary for teachers with no prior experience is approximately $68,902 with a bachelor's degree and $77,455 with a master's degree. Experienced teachers with advanced credentials may earn $123,939 or more. ,
