POSITION TITLE:

Clerk, Payroll Processing

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Primary Purpose:

To assist in the administration of the payroll functions of the district in a manner that preserves confidentiality and projects a professional image of the department.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Perform all job duties in a confidential and responsible manner, demonstrating good judgment.

Respond to general employee inquires and direct specific inquires to appropriate staff.

Process departmental mail.

Scan departmental documents

Ensure accuracy of attendance records (UKG) for all employee for compliance with Federal Wage and Hour Laws.

Assist Payroll Specialist(s) with the processing of payroll.

Serve as back up in the absence of other departmental staff.

Maintain confidentiality of department information.

Attendance at work is an essential function.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Payroll Coordinator or designee.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum Experience:

Accounts payable experience preferred

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education/Certification:

High school diploma
15 credited college hours OR three years of experience as an administrative assistant or similar office experience preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of payroll and accounting procedures including federal and state laws pertaining to the process
Exceptional computer skills
Knowledge of Federal Wage and Hour laws.
Ability to exercise independent decision making
Ability to stay informed of new rules and regulations relating to the payroll function
Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with district personnel

OTHER INFORMATION:

Equipment Used:
Computer for specialized data entry, word processing, spreadsheet applications, printer, typewriter, copy machine, calculator, telephone, check sealer/mailer

Working Conditions:
Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Light lifting and carrying (under 15 pounds), use of fingers, walking, specific visual requirements (using computer), specific hearing requirements (telephone conversations).

Excessive noise (burster), unusual fatigue factors (constant concentration, data entry).
