To support our customers' diverse drilling requirements, Major Drilling maintains field operations around the world and provides a full range of drilling services, including surface coring, directional, reverse circulation, rotary, and environmental drilling.
We are currently seeking a Purchasing Agent to join our team at our Salt Lake City, Utah warehouse. This full-time position is responsible for purchasing materials, equipment, and services to support operations while maintaining inventory accuracy, coordinating shipping and receiving activities, and ensuring cost-effective procurement. The successful candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Responsibilities
- Prepare and issue purchase orders for materials, equipment, and services.
- Solicit and evaluate supplier quotations and bid proposals.
- Research and evaluate vendors based on quality, pricing, reliability, service, and delivery performance.
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts with suppliers.
- Monitor supplier performance and contract compliance.
- Analyze pricing trends and market conditions to support purchasing decisions.
- Ensure compliance with applicable purchasing policies, laws, and regulations.
- Maintain accurate purchasing, inventory, and vendor records.
- Review product specifications and maintain technical knowledge of purchased goods and services.
- Coordinate freight shipments and arrange payment of freight and duty charges.
- Track shipments and resolve delivery delays or discrepancies.
- Work with vendors and internal departments to resolve quality or service issues.
- Reconcile purchase orders, invoices, and shipped materials for accuracy.
- Verify orders prior to shipment and correct discrepancies before delivery.
- Prepare and print shipping labels and shipping documentation.
- Record shipment information, including work orders and destinations.
- Perform receiving transactions and inventory data entry.
- Maintain organized shipping and receiving documentation and filing systems.
- Support warehouse inventory control processes.
- Follow Lean and 5S principles to maintain an organized and efficient work environment.
- Safely operate warehouse equipment as required (forklift certification preferred).
- Read and use measuring tools, including tape measures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Experience
- Previous purchasing, warehouse, inventory, or supply chain experience preferred.
- Experience with ERP or inventory management systems is an asset.

- Forklift certification preferred or ability to obtain certification.
Work Environment
This position is primarily based in our Salt Lake City warehouse and yard with occasional travel to field locations. Work may be performed in varying weather conditions and industrial environments.
