Position Overview
We are seeking a customer-focused, people-oriented professional to serve as our Package Center Front Desk Clerk. This role is the welcoming face of the package center and a key part of creating a positive, supportive experience for employees, students, visitors, and delivery partners. The ideal candidate genuinely enjoys helping others, communicates with professionalism and care, and takes pride in ensuring every package and every interaction is handled with accuracy, urgency, and attention to detail.
This position plays an important role in supporting daily package center operations by managing incoming and outgoing shipments, maintaining organized systems, and helping ensure the center runs smoothly and efficiently. Success in this role requires strong communication skills, excellent customer service, organization, and the ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment while consistently elevating the customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service Excellence
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all package-related inquiries, delivering a high level of professionalism, patience, and responsiveness.
- Proactively assist employees, visitors, and delivery partners with locating, retrieving, and resolving package-related concerns.
- Communicate clearly and courteously at all times to ensure a positive customer experience.
- Verify recipient identity prior to releasing packages to ensure secure and accurate distribution.
Package and Mail Operations
- Inspect, receive, and document incoming shipments, ensuring accuracy against purchase orders and delivery records.
- Assign packages to appropriate shelving or smart locker locations for accurate tracking and timely pickup.
- Distribute packages and mail in a secure and timely manner.
- Load, monitor, and manage smart lockers, including reassignment and relocation of overdue packages.
- Pack, label, and prepare outgoing shipments; coordinate with courier services to ensure timely dispatch.
- Research and resolve unidentified, misrouted, or unclaimed packages in accordance with company protocols.
Tracking, Compliance, and Inventory
- Maintain accurate records of shipments, locker assignments, and inventory using designated software systems.
- Respond to ServiceNow tickets and other service requests within required timeframes.
- Maintain inventory of package center supplies, office materials, and equipment; perform audits as needed.
- Report discrepancies, damaged items, or security concerns promptly to the supervisor.
- Ensure compliance with safety, security, and handling procedures at all times.
Operational Support
- Liaise with vendors and couriers to resolve delivery issues efficiently.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Assist with office relocations, equipment moves, and special logistics projects as assigned.
- Complete additional duties as assigned to support the overall operation of the department.
Qualifications
- Experience in shipping, receiving, logistics, inventory management, or similar operational roles preferred.
- Strong commitment to delivering exceptional customer service and enhancing the customer experience.
- High attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate documentation and records.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with logistics or tracking systems preferred.
- Ability to multitask and remain professional in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented setting while maintaining a positive attitude.
- Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
Job Requirements
- Regular attendance and physical presence at the assigned job site.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Valid California Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
- High school diploma or GED required; equivalent work experience may be considered.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English sufficiently to communicate clearly and complete system documentation.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds unassisted and move, carry, push, or pull packages and materials.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, bend, stoop, kneel, and perform repetitive tasks.
- Ability to work in varying indoor and outdoor temperature conditions.
Schedule Flexibility
Due to the operational needs of the business, team members may be required to work varying shifts, including mornings, afternoons, and evenings.
This job is located in Palo Alto, CA.
Compensation: $24.00
Schedule: M-F 10:45am - 7:15pm with 2 Saturdays required a month
