Position Summary
The Sandblast Operator is responsible for preparing metal components, pump parts, and industrial equipment for repair, coating, and painting by operating abrasive blasting equipment. This position ensures surfaces are properly cleaned and finished while maintaining quality standards, equipment performance, and workplace safety in a fast-paced industrial repair environment. The role requires attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to safely handle abrasive blasting equipment and materials.
- Operate sandblasting equipment to remove rust, corrosion, paint, scale, and contaminants from metal components.
- Prepare pump housings, valves, motors, and other industrial equipment for painting, coating, or repair.
- Select the proper abrasive media based on material type and job specifications.
- Inspect parts before, during, and after blasting to ensure quality standards are met.
- Mask or protect surfaces that should not be blasted.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of blasting equipment and blast cabinets.
- Load, unload, and move materials using forklifts, overhead cranes, or other material handling equipment as authorized.
- Maintain accurate work records and communicate production status with supervisors.
- Follow all OSHA regulations, PPE requirements, and company safety procedures.
- Keep the blast area clean, organized, and free of hazards.
- Assist other departments with production tasks as needed.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous sandblasting, industrial painting, or manufacturing experience preferred.
- Mechanical aptitude and experience working with industrial equipment.
- Ability to safely operate abrasive blasting equipment.
- Experience with forklifts or overhead cranes is a plus.
- Ability to read work orders and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and reach throughout the shift.
- Frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in a noisy industrial environment with exposure to dust and abrasive materials.
- Must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirator, blast hood, gloves, hearing protection, and steel-toe boots.
- Ability to work safely around heavy equipment and machinery.
