We are a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting Individuals with Developmental Disabilities. We have been serving Individuals with Developmental Disabilities in San Luis Obispo County since 1957, when we first introduced our Vocational Training Program.

At Achievement House, our Community Living and Social Recreation Instructors assist with independent living and social skills for community independence.
Essential Duties Include:

Encourage and instruct clients in the development of self-advocacy skills and financial management.

Assist individuals in enhancing their interaction and social skills within the community.

Teach and encourage proper leisure activities and the effective use of leisure time.

Provide training as indicated on the Individual Service Plan (ISP) to ensure acquisition, retention, and improvement of adaptive skills and behaviors.
Qualifying Specifications:
Must provide on-going proof of current state required auto insurance and drivers license. Driving is an essential function of this position.
Must have an acceptable driving record as determined by criteria established by the agencys insurance carrier.
Must clear fingerprints through the California Department of Justice and the FBI.
Basic computer skills.
Physical Requirements:

Essential functions of this position require that employees regularly sit, stand, bend, twist and walk.

Employees may occasionally be required to lift or move up to 50 lbs.
Education / Experience:
-
A high school education or equivalent is required.

Previous experience working with Individuals with Developmental Disabilities is preferred, but not required.

Bi-lingual preferred, but not required.
Skills and Abilities Preferred:
The ability to have compassion, patience, good communication, resourcefulness, and the ability to make sound decisions.
The ability to work with minimal supervision.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Reading, writing, basic math and computer skills.
The ability to motivate others and provide instruction and support to adults with disabilities!
Flexible with work schedules and willing to help cover different sites as needed. Must be able to cover weekends and evenings.
