In-House Landman
Entry to Mid-Level | Houston, TX
Location: Houston, TX — In-Office (candidates must be local to the Houston area)
Job Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire (Employee, W-2)
Experience: 0–5 years
Travel: Frequent travel may be required
About the Role
We are seeking a motivated In-House Landman to join our land department in Houston. Unlike a field or contract landman role, this is a direct-hire, in-office position offering the stability of full-time employment, comprehensive benefits, and long-term career development within our organization. You'll work on-site directly with the VP of Land and gain exposure across the full land function — lease analysis, title review, acquisitions and divestitures, and support for active drilling programs.
This position is based in our Houston office. While frequent travel to field offices and industry events may be required, candidates must reside in (or be willing to relocate to at their own expense) the greater Houston area, as regular in-office work is an essential part of the role. This is not a remote or hybrid position.
Responsibilities
- Review and analyze title opinions, runsheets, and ownership reports; coordinate with brokers and title attorneys on curative matters
- Negotiate and administer oil and gas leases, amendments, extensions, ratifications, and surface use agreements
- Manage lease records, obligation calendars, rental and shut-in payments, and land databases
- Prepare and review assignments, pooling designations, and other land-related instruments
- Support due diligence efforts for acquisitions and divestitures
- Coordinate with geology, engineering, accounting, and legal teams on drilling schedules, AFEs, and land requirements
- Oversee and direct field brokers and contract landmen as needed
- Communicate professionally with mineral owners, working interest partners, attorneys, and regulatory agencies
- Travel to courthouses, field offices, and partner meetings as business needs require
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in Energy Management, Petroleum Land Management, Business, or a related field
- 0–5 years of experience in oil and gas land work (internship or field brokerage experience considered)
- Local to the greater Houston, TX area (or willing to relocate prior to start date) — this is an in-office position
- Ability and willingness to travel frequently as needed
- Strong research, organizational, and analytical skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Valid driver's license
- Authorization to work in the United States
Preferred:
- Active AAPL membership
