Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated Live-In Evening and Weekend Advocate to provide support and assistance to victims of domestic violence and their children residing in our shelter during evening and weekend hours. This position offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of those requiring crisis intervention, safety, and support. Previous shelter experience STRONGLY PREFERRED.
Responsibilities:
- Provide crisis management and intervention services during evening and weekend hours
- Conduct the intakes and orientation for new shelter residents who enter in the evening or on the weekends.
- Answer and assist victims calling our 24-hour crisis line
- Coordinate daily chores and upkeep of the inside and outside of the shelter
- Conduct group meeting and/or activities as needed or planned
- Offer individual non-therapeutic counseling and support as needed
- Conduct regular inspections, making sure doors and window are locked and security lights are functioning.
- Conduct daily in-house inspections assuring safety of the residents
- Collect and record pertinent data for statistical reporting purposes
- Attend all staff meeting and trainings as required by the Executive Director or Shelter Director
- Monitor and administer supplies and toiletries to shelter residents as needed
- Coordinate acceptance, organization, and distribution of donations
- Do weekly grocery purchases for shelter residents
Skills:
- Proficiency in crisis management techniques
- Background in social work or related field
- Preference given to prior work with victims of domestic violence
- Experience in group homes or shelters
- Strong conflict management skills
- Ability to interact effectively with children
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a high school diploma or GED
- Ability and willingness to work with victims of domestic violence
- Ability to communicate with clients with trauma-informed, non-judgmental skills
- Ability to communicate professionally with other agencies
- Valid TN driver's license and auto liability insurance
- Must pass a criminal background check
- Must be able to pass random drug screens
