Member Services Specialist - Center for Health & Fitness

Are you someone who enjoys connecting with people, solving problems and helping create an environment where everyone feels welcome? Beach Cities Health District (BCHD) is looking for a Member Services Specialist to join our Center for Health & Fitness (CHF) team.
CHF is more than a gym. It's a place of connection, growth and belonging where community members of all ages and fitness levels can support their health and well-being. As a Member Services Specialist, you'll play an important role in creating that experience for our members while helping keep the day-to-day operations of the facility running smoothly.
This is a great opportunity for someone with a background in customer service, hospitality, recreation, fitness, membership services or another people-focused environment who is ready to take on additional responsibility and grow their experience in member services and facility operations.
What You'll Do
As a Member Services Specialist, you'll be a go-to resource for our members, guests and team. You'll:
- Create a welcoming and positive experience for members and guests
- Help members navigate memberships, classes, personal training and other CHF and BCHD programs and services
- Answer questions and help resolve member concerns with care and professionalism
- Support membership accounts, billing, payments, refunds, freezes and other account needs
- Coordinate insurance-based membership programs, including SilverSneakers, Silver&Fit and Healthy Contributions
- Help create opportunities that keep members engaged and connected, including quarterly Silver challenges
- Support front desk volunteers with day-to-day duties and assignments
- Help maintain a safe, clean and welcoming facility
- Rotate as Manager on Duty, supporting facility operations, responding to member needs and helping ensure smooth transitions between shifts
- Collaborate with the CHF team on programs, community events and special projects
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who is friendly, dependable, organized and comfortable taking initiative. Someone who enjoys working with people, can think on their feet and understands that sometimes great customer service means listening, problem-solving and finding the right solution.
You don't need to come from a health and fitness background to be successful in this role. Experience in customer service, hospitality, recreation, fitness, retail, membership services or another service-focused environment can provide a great foundation.
Minimum qualifications include:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least one year of experience in a service environment
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Excellent organization and attention to detail
- Ability to build positive relationships with a diverse range of people
- Comfort using Microsoft programs and learning new technology and software
- Ability to problem-solve and provide excellent service in a busy environment
- Ability to work a schedule that may include evenings and weekends
Some college education and previous experience coordinating schedules, writing procedures or supporting front desk/customer service operations are highly desirable. Relevant work experience may be considered in place of formal education.

Additional Details
Position: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Location: Center for Health & Fitness, Redondo Beach, CA
Schedule: This position participates in a Manager on Duty rotation and may include evening and weekend shifts based on facility needs.
Requirements: Must be at least 18 years old and able to successfully complete required pre-employment screenings.
