Duties
- Provide a safe, stable, and nurturing home environment tailored to each child's individual needs.
- Assist children with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation.
- Administer medications and monitor vital signs in accordance with care plans and medical directives.
- Support children with developmental disabilities or conditions like autism, dementia, or Alzheimer's through specialized care techniques including memory care and behavior management.
- Maintain detailed documentation using electronic medical record (EMR) systems; update care plans regularly to reflect progress and changing needs.
- Collaborate with case managers, social workers, healthcare providers, and family members to ensure comprehensive support for each child.
- Manage household tasks such as cleaning and maintaining a safe environment; assist with transportation using driving skills when necessary.
Skills
- Experience in assisted living facilities or nursing homes is highly valued; familiarity with senior care and hospice care is a plus.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, HIPAA regulations, and patient care procedures including first aid certification.
- Proven ability to work effectively with individuals with disabilities or behavioral challenges; experience with dementia or memory care is advantageous.
- Excellent conflict management skills; capable of handling challenging behaviors through positive reinforcement and behavior management techniques.
- Competence in using EMR systems for documentation; ability to follow detailed care plans accurately.
- Compassionate caregiver with experience in childcare or nursing; adept at assisting with ADLs and providing emotional support.
- Valid driver’s license for safe transportation; physical ability for heavy lifting and assisting residents using equipment like Hoyer lifts or resident lifts.
