Aerothermal Project Engineer
Location: East Hartford, CT (Onsite)

About the Role
Cyient is seeking an Aerothermal Project Engineer to support advanced aerospace engine development programs for Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford, CT. This role combines aerothermal engineering expertise with project leadership responsibilities, serving as the technical focal point for the design, analysis, execution, and delivery of critical gas turbine engine components and systems.
The ideal candidate is a proactive engineer with strong analytical skills, experience in heat transfer and fluid flow, and the ability to coordinate cross-functional engineering activities while ensuring projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and to the highest technical standards.
Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Engineering
- Lead aerothermal engineering activities supporting the design and development of gas turbine engine components.
- Perform thermal and fluid flow analyses using analytical methods and computational tools.
- Evaluate cooling system performance, heat transfer characteristics, combustion airflow, and engine thermal management.
- Develop engineering models to predict component temperatures, flow distributions, pressure losses, and overall engine performance.
- Support engine performance improvements through thermal optimization and design enhancements.
- Review engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation to ensure compliance with customer and program requirements.
- Analyze test data and correlate analytical predictions with experimental results.
- Participate in root cause investigations and recommend corrective actions for thermal or performance-related issues.
Project Engineering
- Serve as the technical project lead for assigned aerothermal work packages.
- Coordinate activities across design, systems, manufacturing, testing, quality, and customer teams.
- Develop project schedules, monitor milestones, identify technical risks, and communicate project status.
- Track deliverables to ensure commitments are met on time and within scope.
- Facilitate technical reviews and present engineering findings to customers and leadership.
- Support proposal development, technical planning, and estimation activities for new programs.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve engineering methods, analysis tools, and project execution processes.
- Drive lessons learned and best practices across engineering teams.
- Support implementation of digital engineering tools and model-based engineering initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- 5+ years of engineering experience supporting aerospace, propulsion, turbomachinery, or gas turbine programs.
- Experience with aerothermal analysis, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, or engine performance.
- Strong understanding of thermodynamics, combustion, and gas turbine engine fundamentals.
- Experience leading technical projects or coordinating multidisciplinary engineering efforts.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with customers and cross-functional engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience supporting Pratt & Whitney or other aerospace propulsion programs.
- Experience with CFD tools such as ANSYS Fluent, STAR-CCM+, CFX, or similar.
- Familiarity with MATLAB, Python, or other engineering analysis tools.
- Knowledge of turbine cooling, compressor aerodynamics, combustor design, or engine thermal management.
- Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) and structural-thermal coupling.
- Understanding of aerospace industry standards and engineering documentation processes.

Pay: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
