Job Summary
Payette County Road & Bridge is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Diesel Mechanic to join our crew. In this role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of heavy construction and diesel truck equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety. Your expertise will help keep our fleet operating smoothly, minimizing downtime and maximizing productivity. This position offers an exciting opportunity for mechanics with a passion for heavy machinery, electrical diagnostics, and hands-on repair work.
Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive diagnostics and repairs on diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, air brakes, suspension systems, and electrical systems across various heavy equipment such as excavators, cranes, forklifts, and construction machinery.
- Conduct routine maintenance including oil changes, tire service, brake repairs, alignment checks, and HVAC system servicing to ensure equipment longevity and safety.
- Utilize OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) schematics and technical manuals to troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues efficiently.
- Fabricate parts or modify equipment using welding, hand tools, power tools, and fabrication techniques to meet specific operational needs.
- Test repaired equipment through operational checks and road tests; document all repairs accurately in maintenance logs.
- Assist with heavy lifting operations during repairs or assembly of large machinery components while adhering to safety protocols.
- Provide exceptional customer service by communicating effectively with team members regarding equipment status and repair timelines.
- Crewman duties include, but not limited to sanding, plowing snow, patching, oiling, sweeping, mowing, hauling sand and rock, flagging and signing for work projects
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Heavy Equipment Diesel Mechanic or Service Technician with dealership experience preferred.
- Strong mechanical knowledge of construction machinery maintenance, including excavators, cranes, tractors, forklifts, and farm machinery.
- Proficiency in electrical diagnostics, automotive diagnostics, schematics reading, and troubleshooting complex electrical systems.
- Skilled in equipment troubleshooting involving hydraulics, power tools operation, welding (including soldering), and assembly work.
- Ability to perform diesel engine diagnostics and repair on various engine types; experience with Caterpillar or OEM equipment is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of air brake systems, transmissions, suspension components, HVAC systems, tire service, and heavy equipment operation.
- Capable of heavy lifting safely while maintaining attention to detail during repairs or inspections.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on safety standards and quality workmanship.
- This position will require a Class "A" CDL and you must be able to pass any drug and alcohol testing that is required to maintain CDL.
