Position Summary
The Journeyman Welding Foreman is responsible for leading and performing skilled welding and fabrication work within a manufacturing plant environment. This role provides day-to-day supervision of welding personnel while performing hands-on welding, ensuring maintenance and fabrication activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with Day & Zimmermann’s Core Values. The foreman partners closely with maintenance leadership, production, engineering, quality, and safety teams to minimize downtime and drive continuous improvement.
Job Duties:
- Champion a strong safety culture by ensuring strict compliance with all Day & Zimmermann safety policies, OSHA regulations, hot work permit requirements, and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Lead and participate in job hazard analyses (JHAs), pre-task planning, and daily toolbox safety talks.
- Immediately address unsafe conditions or behaviors and reinforce accountability for safety expectations.
- Lead, supervise, and coordinate welders and welding helpers supporting manufactguring operations.
- Plan and assign daily work activities in alignment with produection schedules and maintenance priorities.
- Perform hands-on welding and fabrication using SMAW, GMAW (MIG), FCAW, and GTAW (TIG) processes.
- Support maintenance, repair, modification, and installation of manufacturing equipment, piping, and structural components.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, welding symbols, WPS, and technical specifications.
- Ensure welding work complies with applicable codes and standards (AWS, ASME, API, and customer specifications).
- Inspect welds for quality and compliance; coordinate repairs or rework as necessary.
- Resolve work-related conflicts in a professional and respectful manner consistent with D&Z core values.
- Coordinate work with maintenance supervision, production, engineering, quality, and other trades.
- Monitor productivity, quality, and job progress to minimize downtime.
- Maintain welding equipment, tools, and consumables in safe, serviceable condition.
- Mentor and train journeyman welders and apprentices.
- Complete required documentation including work orders, timekeeping, inspection records, and CMMS updates.
- Promote continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, and efficiency.
Required Qualifications
- Journeyman Welder certification or equivalent documented experience.
- Minimum of five (5) years of welding experience in a manufacturing or industrial maintenance environment.
- Prior leadership, lead welder, or foreman experience preferred.
- Proficiency in SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, and GTAW welding processes.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, WPS, and technical documentation.
- Demonstrated leadership, communication, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Strong commitment to safety, quality, reliability, and continuous improvement.
- Ability to model and reinforce Day & Zimmermann core values.
- High School Diploma or GED
Preferred Qualifications
- Active welding certifications (AWS, ASME, API, or customer-specific).
- Experience welding piping systems, structural steel, and equipment supports.
- Familiarity with CMMS systems and maintenance documentation.
- OSHA safety training and hot work permit experience.
- Experience in a continuous manufacturing or process-driven environment.

Pay: $37.00 - $38.50 per hour
