Whitecap Search Healthcare Partners is seeking a full-time Peer Specialist to assist a large social service organization in Brooklyn, NY. The role involves developing meaningful relationships with patients and families by providing resources for supportive care and guidance.
- Engagement: Foster a sense of community through shared lived experiences and maintain clear professional boundaries. Build strong, trusting relationships and encourage help-seeking behaviors.
- Advocacy & Support: Support access to needed care by addressing barriers and advocate on behalf of individuals. Facilitate educational and wellness activities and support self-awareness and life skills development.
- Communication & Professional Responsibilities: Maintain open communication with team members, complete timely documentation, and uphold strict confidentiality.
- High school diploma
- Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (or Provisional) Certification required (CRPA)
- Preferable lived experience of mental health challenges, including psychosis during youth
- Relates well to all ages, cultures, and backgrounds
- Demonstrates good interpersonal communication skills and ability to empathize
- One-Two years of active participation in mental health self-help activities or similar experiences
- Ability/willingness to disclose recovery story for empowerment purposes
- Excellent judgment and understanding of boundaries required
