This full-time role is based in a supportive school environment near Melrose Park, IL, serving a caseload of approximately 30-50 students. You’ll play a key part in fostering inclusion, building students’ confidence, and promoting healthy lifestyles through tailored physical education programs.
Qualifications and Experience Sought:
- Valid Professional Educator License specifically for Adapted Physical Education.
- Previous experience working within K-12 special education settings is highly preferred.
- Solid understanding of IEP implementation and adaptive curriculum development.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with educators, therapists, families, and students.
- Creative problem solver with a passion for making physical education accessible to all learners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess individual student abilities and design customized physical education plans to meet varying needs.
- Deliver engaging instruction and activities suitable for students with physical, emotional, or cognitive differences.
- Adapt equipment and routines to ensure safe and effective participation.
- Track student progress and maintain timely documentation as required.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, aides, therapists, and administration to integrate goals and support.
- Participate in IEP meetings, parent conferences, and professional development sessions.
