We are seeking an experienced Clinical Lead Dermatology Medical Assistant to oversee our clinical operations while continuing to provide hands-on patient care. This position is ideal for a highly organized, dependable leader who enjoys mentoring others, improving workflows, and maintaining high clinical standards.
Position Overview
The Clinical Lead Medical Assistant serves as the primary leader of our clinical support staff. In addition to working alongside providers, this individual is responsible for training and developing medical assistants, maintaining clinical inventory and supplies, ensuring consistency in workflows, and helping uphold the quality of patient care throughout the practice.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and support the medical assistant team.
- Train and onboard new clinical staff while ensuring competency and consistency.
- Monitor clinical workflows and identify opportunities for improved efficiency.
- Maintain high standards for patient care, professionalism, and compliance.
- Serve as a resource for clinical questions and assist with problem-solving throughout the day.
Inventory & Clinical Operations
- Manage medical and surgical inventory.
- Maintain appropriate stock levels and place supply orders.
- Ensure treatment rooms are properly stocked and organized.
- Oversee instrument processing and sterilization protocols.
- Help implement and maintain clinical policies and procedures.
Patient Care
- Room patients and perform accurate intake, including medical history, medications, allergies, and documentation.
- Prepare patients for examinations and procedures.
- Provide patient education and post-procedure instructions.
- Assist with patient follow-up, including wound care and postoperative communication.
Procedure & Surgical Assistance
- Assist providers with biopsies, excisions, Mohs surgery, cosmetic procedures, and other dermatologic treatments.
- Prepare procedure rooms, surgical trays, and equipment.
- Maintain sterile technique and ensure patient comfort throughout procedures.
Electronic Medical Records
- Accurately document patient encounters using EMA Electronic Medical Records.
- Maintain complete and accurate clinical documentation.
- Assist providers with efficient chart completion and workflow.
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum 2 years of experience working as a Medical Assistant in a dermatology practice.
- Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience using EMA (Modernizing Medicine).
- Strong understanding of dermatology workflows, terminology, and common procedures.
- Experience assisting with biopsies, excisions, and surgical dermatology procedures.
- Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and remain calm in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Preferred
- Previous experience serving as a Clinical Lead, Lead Medical Assistant, or supervising/training other medical assistants.
- Experience with Mohs surgery and cosmetic dermatology.
- Medical Assistant certification (CDT, CCMA, or equivalent).
