Job Title: 811 Utility Designator Technician
GeoPoint is a land surveying company with multiple locations, specializing in land development, geomatics, geospatial mapping, commercial surveys, and subsurface utility engineering.
Summary/Objective:
The 811 Utility Designator Technician plays a crucial role in identifying and mapping underground utilities to ensure safe and efficient excavation and construction projects. This position requires a blend of technical proficiency, field experience, and strong communication skills. This role is suitable for individuals with 2 or more years of locating experience.
Essential Job Functions:
- Acquire and maintain the ability to research and interpret utility record drawings and maps.
- Developing skills to efficiently manage ticket load and route tickets effectively.
- Learning, understanding, and eventually utilizing electromagnetic locating equipment.
- Sustaining a consistent and robust daily work presence.
- Seeking clarity by asking questions whenever necessary to enhance comprehension.
- Gain and/or maintain proficiency with the ticket management program.
- Learning, understanding, and eventually effectively utilizing Ground Penetrating Radar as required.
- Ensuring precision in utility markings and documentation.
- Keeping the working environment and truck organized and clean.
- Willingly assist team members when the need arises.
- Building a foundational understanding of utility operations.
- Displaying eagerness to acquire new skills.
- Maintaining a positive attitude, particularly when collaborating with others.
- Exhibiting the significance of accurate documentation understanding.

Qualifications:
- 2 years of locating experience.
- Proficiency in using utility locating equipment.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Work requires using a machete, shovel and sledgehammer, or other appropriate tools.
- Lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. over rough terrain may be required.
- Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate various pieces of field equipment.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms, speak, and hear.
- The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and smell.
- Able to get in and out of vehicle multiple times a day.
- Drive 30 to 200 miles daily.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Due to the outdoor environment, there is potential exposure to natural hazards.
- It is required to work outside in all types of weather conditions, possibly for extended periods of time.
- The terrain may be rough, steep, wet, or swampy. Vegetation may be dense, and insects, snakes, or animals may be encountered.
- Desk/Workstation may be located in a confined area.
- Able to work overtime and some weekends.
- Able to work well in a team environment as well as being self-motivated and driven.
- Ability to work in various outdoor environments and weather conditions.
Safety Responsibility:

Travel:
- Some travel may be required.
Schedule:
- Must be able to start the workday promptly @ 6:30 AM and be available until 6:00 PM if required.
- Overtime is mandatory.
Availability:
- Able to work 40–65 hours per week, including evenings and weekends if required.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $35.00 per hour
