Schreiber Excavating is a family owned sitework and underground utility contractor in Ontario, NY, in business since 1999. We are hiring a dump truck driver to haul for our own jobs and for our broker customers.
Local hauls. Home every night. No over the road, no sleeper, no logbook life.
Pay
CDL Class B: $25 to $28 per hour depending on experience.
CDL Class A: $28 to $32 per hour depending on experience, because you can also move equipment for us.
Paid weekly by direct deposit. Overtime available in season.
One thing we will tell you now instead of at the offer
This is a seasonal position. Plan on a layoff from around December through April, and we call our people back in the spring. Any winter work we get is already covered by our current drivers, so there are no winter hours in this seat. If you need twelve months of paychecks from one employer, this is not the right job and we would rather you know that before you apply.
What you will do
- Haul stone, sand, gravel, topsoil, asphalt, and spoils between quarries, our jobsites, and broker customers
- Load out at the scale house, tarp every load, and get to the job on time
- Back into tight jobsite spots and dump safely, reading the ground and the slope every time
- Pre trip and post trip inspection every single day
- Fuel at the end of every day and keep the truck clean inside and out
- Paperwork done same day. We use paper forms today and we are moving to phone based documentation soon.
- Get out of the truck and help the crew or in the shop when the trucking is slow
What you need
- Valid CDL Class B or Class A, a clean driving abstract, and a current DOT medical card
- You can back a truck confidently in tight spots. We will watch you do it before we hire you.
- Good with paperwork, and legible
- You follow the rules without arguing. Pre trip, post trip, tarp, fuel, speed, every time.
- On time or early, every day
- Live within about one hour of Ontario, NY
- Willing to do physical work when the trucking is slow
- Able to pass a DOT drug screen and a Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse query
Helps, but not required
Experience hauling for a sitework, paving, or aggregate company. Knowledge of the local quarries and scale houses. CDL Class A. Manual transmission, though our truck is an automatic so we can teach that. Loader or skid steer time. Plow or winter hauling experience. We will compromise on years of experience. We will not compromise on backing, paperwork, or attitude.
