Position Summary: Cook (Assisted Living Community)
The Cook is responsible for the preparation and service of nutritious, appealing meals in accordance with residents’ dietary needs, physician orders, and community standards. This role supports resident health, safety, and satisfaction by maintaining high-quality food service, adhering to sanitation guidelines, and contributing to a positive dining experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook meals according to planned menus, recipes, and dietary requirements (including therapeutic and modified diets).
- Ensure meals are served on time and at appropriate temperatures.
- Follow all state regulations and facility policies related to food safety, sanitation, and infection control (e.g., ServSafe, local health codes).
- Maintain a clean, organized kitchen, including proper storage of food and supplies.
- Monitor food inventory, rotate stock (FIFO), and assist with ordering as needed.
- Work collaboratively with dietary staff, nursing, and leadership to accommodate resident preferences and special requests.
- Ensure portion control and minimize food waste.
- Assist with special events, holiday meals, and themed dining activities.
- Properly label and date all food items and ensure safe food handling practices.
- Report equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, or supply shortages promptly.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous cooking experience in healthcare, senior living, or institutional food service preferred.
- Knowledge of dietary restrictions (low sodium, diabetic, texture-modified, etc.).
- Food Handler’s Permit or ServSafe Certification (or ability to obtain).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
