Company Overview:
MWTS Inc. is a woman-owned, small Vermont-based organization with a global footprint as a leading cable assembly manufacturer. We serve major companies in the medical, aerospace, and automotive industries. We are currently expanding our presence in the US market, and we need a team that moves fast and wears multiple hats.
Position Overview:
We’re looking for a hands-on Production Technician to join our production floor and build the cable and wire harness assemblies at the core of our business. Reporting to the Production Supervisor, you’ll assemble, solder, terminate, and test our products day to day, working shoulder-to-shoulder with a small team and pitching in wherever you’re needed.
This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a small-company environment — where the work is visible, the role has variety, and your craftsmanship directly affects what ships to customers in highly demanding industries.
You do not need prior experience in every task listed below. We value adaptability and potential, and we’re glad to train a candidate who shows strong aptitude and attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Analysis
- Build wire and cable assemblies, harnesses, and sub-assemblies according to engineering drawings, work instructions, and quality standards (e.g., IPC/WHMA-A-620)
- Perform wire preparation — cutting, stripping, and tinning
- Crimp terminals, contacts, and connectors using hand and machine crimp tools
- Solder terminations and connectors to specification
- Assemble connectors, apply heat-shrink and labeling, and route, bundle, and lace harnesses
- Perform continuity and electrical testing on finished assemblies and document results
- Carry out in-process and final inspection to ensure quality and traceability standards are met — critical for our medical, aerospace, and automotive customers
- Identify and flag defects, material shortages, or process issues to the team
- Keep the work area clean, organized, and ESD-safe (5S / housekeeping)
- Support continuous-improvement efforts and take on related tasks as priorities shift — typical of a small team
Qualifications (The "Must-Haves"):
- High school diploma or GED
- Ability to read and follow written work instructions, drawings, and basic measurements
- Good manual dexterity, fine motor control, and comfort with hand tools
- Strong attention to detail and a quality-first mindset
- Reliable, punctual, and a team player who communicates openly
- Comfort working in a small-company setting with limited bureaucracy and shifting priorities
- Able to perform the physical requirements of the role (see below)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate degree (technical, electronics, manufacturing, or related field)
- Soldering experience (through-hole and/or wire-to-terminal); IPC/WHMA-A-620 or J-STD-001 familiarity a plus (we recognize strong solderers are hard to find — we’re happy to train the right candidate who shows aptitude)
- Prior experience in cable assembly, wire harness, or a manufacturing/assembly floor
- Comfort using basic test/measurement equipment (e.g., multimeter, calipers, crimp pull-tester)
- A genuine preference for a small-company setting — variety, autonomy, and direct impact over rigid specialization
Communication and Collaboration:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as production or engineering.
- Clear and proactive communications with the customers and suppliers.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit or stand at a workbench for extended periods
- Close-up visual work and fine motor control (assembly, crimping, soldering)
- Ability to lift up to [25–50] lbs occasionally
- Work in an ESD-controlled area; soldering with appropriate ventilation
Benefits Overview:
- Health, dental, and vision insurance
- 12 paid holidays per year as well as generous PTO policy
- Annual merit increase and performance-driven bonus opportunity
- Professional development opportunities
- Exposure to the global business environment
Note: Research shows that women and underrepresented groups often only apply when they feel they meet 100% of the qualifications. We encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every single requirement listed above. We are looking for the right person to grow with us.
