About the Role
This is an entry-level position designed as a pathway into software development. In this role, you will begin on our Information Systems Helpdesk team, providing technical support to internal users while building a strong foundation in our systems, tools, and business processes. During this time, you will also develop your programming and technical skills.
As opportunities become available, high-performing individuals in this role will be considered for a transition to a Programmer Analyst Trainee position. This role is ideal for candidates who enjoy helping people, solving problems, and are motivated to grow into a software development career.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
- OR
- equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
- Internship, coursework, or personal projects in programming preferred
- Prior helpdesk or customer service experience is a plus
Required Skills and Abilities
Technical Support Skills
- Strong troubleshooting ability across software, hardware, and basic networking
- Familiarity with Windows operating systems; Linux exposure is a plus
- Basic understanding of Active Directory or user account management
- Ability to learn and support enterprise applications
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow processes
Development Aptitude
- Foundational knowledge of a programming language (Java, C#, or similar)
- Exposure to scripting (PowerShell preferred) or automation concepts
- Basic understanding of databases or SQL is a plus
- Strong interest in pursuing a career in software development
Soft Skills
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Ability to explain technical concepts in a clear, user-friendly way
- Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking
- Self-motivated with a willingness to learn and grow
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Location & Commitments
- Position is based in Raleigh, NC
- Hybrid work from home available after training period (three days per week in-office required)
- Must be within reasonable commuting distance
Responsibilities of the Role
Primary: Helpdesk & User Support
- Provide first and second-level technical support for internal users
- Diagnose and resolve issues related to software, hardware, and network access
- Guide users through step-by-step solutions in a professional manner
- Manage and update tickets in the IT Service Desk system
- Escalate complex issues to appropriate teams when necessary
- Assist with user account setup, password resets, and system access
Secondary: Development Growth & Exposure
- Participate in training and self-directed learning in programming and development tools
- Assist with basic scripting or automation tasks where applicable
- Shadow development teams and learn internal systems and applications
- Contribute to documentation and process improvements
Career Development Path
- Demonstrate technical growth, initiative, and strong performance in support role
- Build foundational knowledge of company systems and development practices
- Transition into a Programmer Analyst Trainee role as opportunities arise
