We are seeking a Staff Structural Engineer to join our talented team of professionals in Elkridge, Maryland. This role is a strong fit for an engineer who enjoys structural design, construction problem-solving, and work that is directly connected to real-world field conditions.
Role Description
The Staff Structural Engineer will analyze, design, and prepare engineering documentation for temporary works and construction engineering projects. Typical project types include temporary shoring, bracing, formwork, hoist support, scaffold systems, overhead protection systems, and other construction-related structural support conditions.
The role may also include performing condition assessments of existing structures, analyzing existing structures for loads imposed by construction equipment, and designing necessary repairs, renovations, or temporary support solutions.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Using computer-aided design software to prepare deliverables, including submittals, details, sketches, and construction-related engineering documents
- Preparing formal and informal structural calculations using engineering fundamentals, construction best practices, and knowledge of scaffolding, shoring, bracing, and temporary works
- Applying applicable design codes and standards, including IBC, ASCE, AISC, ACI, NDS, and others
- Coordinating with clients, contractors, and internal team members to discuss project requirements, field conditions, and design approaches
- Participating in site visits and field coordination as needed
- Supporting the design and analysis of steel, concrete, wood, aluminum, and masonry structures
Qualifications
Qualified candidates should be well-organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a collaborative, fast-paced engineering environment. Candidates should have strong communication skills, sound engineering judgment, and an interest in construction-focused structural design.
Preferred qualifications include:
- B.S. or M.S. in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Structures
- 2–5 years of structural engineering experience
- EIT certification preferred; PE track encouraged
- Proficiency in AutoCAD
- Experience with structural engineering analysis and design programs such as RISA-3D, Enercalc, StructurePoint, or similar software
- Structural design and analysis experience with steel, concrete, wood, aluminum, and masonry
- Knowledge of scaffolding, hoisting, shoring, bracing, formwork, or temporary works preferred
- Field experience or construction-site exposure is a plus
- Understanding of construction processes and the roles of contractors and subcontractors is preferred

Pay: $90,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
