Job Summary
Build the worship culture at MBC, overseeing the weekly worship experience and quality for worshippers in-person and online. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in teaching, leadership, and communication skills, with a pastoral heart for mentoring others in worship ministry. The Worship/Music Director plays a vital role in shaping the worship experience to be authentic, engaging, and spiritually uplifting. This role is perfect for someone who is musically gifted, spiritually mature, relationally strong, and passionate about building a team comprised of diverse people and skill levels.
Your Job Responsibilities
Worship & Creative Arts:
In coordination with the Senior Pastor, plan engaging worship services that are liturgically cohesive, stylistically relevant, and theologically sensitive.
Cultivate broad knowledge and practical skills across a wide range of sacred music, including traditional expressions (hymns, anthems) as well as contemporary worship music.
Direct weekly worship rehearsals and coordinate vocal, band, sound, lighting, and streaming productions.
Lead and develop choir and handbell ensembles for traditional services.
Serve as the primary worship leader for all services and mentor other worship leaders, including singers and instrumentalists.
Continually develop multimedia and video capabilities.
Take responsibility for the budgeting, purchasing, oversight and maintenance of all worship production equipment (lights, camera equipment, sound, wiring, computers specific to media, and other equipment). Ensure all equipment is maintained (piano/organ/tech equipment), tuned, and coordinate divestiture of outdated or unneeded worship equipment and materials.
Produce and manage (directly or through delegation) all materials and media required for worship services, including bulletins, inserts, orders of worship, slides, announcements, videos, and music resources.

Supervisory:
This role oversees the live-stream and technical worship team and assumes responsibility for all online service quality. Oversee, grow numerically, build the worship teams for each service.
Oversee and coordinate stage design aligned with seasonal, liturgical, and annual themes.
Manage all paid worship musicians, and any paid guest musicians engaged for special services or events.
Collaboration:
Participate as a key member of the staff team including attending weekly meetings, participating in special projects/events and being available to teammates.
Collaborate with other staff and ministries to prepare for special services/events (prayer, missions, Blue Christmas, Maundy Thursday, Ash Wednesday, etc.).
Coordinate with youth leader and children's leader to develop student musicians, singers and worship leaders. Provide support for youth and children worship events and retreats.
Assist with video production and editing (when required).
Leadership & Growth:
Seek out and foster fellowship with other worship leaders in the area.
Cast vision for the future of worship ministry, ensuring work is moving toward long-term goals—not just weekly services.
Stay current on worship music, ideas, practices, trends, and technology. Encourage a culture of creativity.
Become skilled in the use of following programs with the goal of training others:

- ProPresenter
- Black Magic Production Equipment
- Planning Center
- Multitracks
- Click Tracks
- Etc.
Possess intermediate to advanced proficiency on guitar, keyboard and/or other instruments that can be utilized in worship. Continue to improve musically, increasing breadth of instrumentation and vocal skills. Develop systems and training pathways for all worship and production volunteers.
Exhibit conduct in keeping with orthodox Christian Biblical principles and in accordance with the Employee Handbook.
Support the vision and mission of Manassas Baptist Church and its leadership.
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s degree in music, ministry, or a related field (or equivalent meaningful experience with a proven track record)
Formal musical training (piano, guitar, voice, or other instrument)
Demonstrated ability to lead a choir
Proven experience leading worship in a church setting (minimum of 5+ years preferred)
Experience developing volunteers and teams
Working knowledge of worship production environments
Preferred
Master’s degree (seminary, music, or related field)
Ordained or willing to pursue ordination to support broader pastoral leadership responsibilities

Compensation
Salary is based on education, experience, and demonstrated ability. This role is positioned as a leadership role within the organization, with compensation reflecting the responsibility and scope of the position.
Pay: $60,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
