Job Description
Cain Center for the Arts is a 501(c)(3) organization with the mission of providing exceptional visual arts, performing arts, and social experiences to the Lake Norman Region of North Carolina. Founded in 2016, the organization operates two arts facilities in downtown Cornelius, and provides programs in arts education, performing arts, and community impact. It is funded through ticket sales, class and education tuition, philanthropic gifts, and local and state government grants.
Position Summary
Cain Center for the Arts is seeking a friendly, organized, and service-oriented Receptionist and Administrative Assistant to serve as the first point of contact for visitors, patrons, artists, donors, vendors, and community partners. This highly visible role is primarily focused on front desk reception and guest experience, while also providing administrative coordination and office operations support across the organization. The ideal candidate is personable, dependable, proactive, and comfortable working in a dynamic, creative, and public-facing environment. This position plays an important role in shaping each visitor’s experience and helping daily operations run smoothly.
This is a part-time, non-exempt position requiring approximately 20–25 hours per week. Hours will primarily be during normal business hours; however, some nights and weekends may be required. The role is fully on-site and reports to the Executive Assistant to the Executive Director.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Welcome and assist visitors, patrons, artists, donors, vendors, and community members.
· Answer, screen, and route phone calls and emails professionally and promptly.
· Provide information about performances, classes, events, facility offerings, and Cain Center programs.
· Process ticket sales and assist with basic box office functions as needed.
· Support scheduling, meeting preparation, room setup, calendars, messages, filing, data entry, and document preparation.
· Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming reception, lobby, and shared office areas.
· Track and restock office, front desk, and breakroom supplies; manage mail, packages, and deliveries.
· Assist with event setup, registration, guest check-in, and general logistics as needed.
· Support special projects and other administrative needs across departments.
Professional Qualifications and Experience
· High school diploma or equivalent required.
· At least 1 year of administrative, front desk, customer service, or office support experience required.
· Strong customer service, communication, organization, and attention to detail.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general office technology.
· Experience with ticketing, CRM, scheduling, nonprofit, arts, hospitality, or public-facing environments preferred.
· Requires periods of standing, walking throughout the facility, and light lifting.
FLSA STATUS/CLASSIFICATION:
· Part-time and non-exempt in status.
· Compensation: $18-20/hour
