Duties
- Design and implement comprehensive art curricula aligned with educational standards and tailored to diverse student needs.
- Develop engaging lesson plans that incorporate creative writing, visual arts, and digital media tools to foster artistic expression.
- Utilize various teaching methods including project-based learning, demonstrations, and interactive activities to motivate students.
- Assess student progress through formative and summative evaluations, providing constructive feedback to support growth.
- Manage classroom behavior effectively while promoting a positive environment conducive to learning and creativity.
- Incorporate learning technology such as digital art platforms and online resources to enhance instructional delivery.
- Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development, school events, and extracurricular activities like sports coaching or library services.
- Provide mentorship and academic advising to help students develop confidence in their artistic abilities and personal growth.
- Prepare students for standardized testing in arts-related subjects and coordinate tutoring sessions when needed.
- Engage with parents and guardians through effective communication skills to discuss student progress and classroom initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Valid teaching certification for middle school education with a focus on art or visual arts.
- Proven classroom experience working with children at the middle school level, demonstrating strong classroom management skills.
- Proficiency in curriculum development, AP style writing, copy editing, and familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style is advantageous.
- Knowledge of various art techniques including painting, sculpture, digital media, and creative writing methodologies.
- Experience integrating learning technology into lesson plans to enhance student engagement.
- Strong communication skills for effective public speaking, instruction delivery, and parent interactions.
- Ability to mentor students across diverse backgrounds while fostering an inclusive environment.
- Skills in behavior management, childhood development principles, and special education practices are highly valued.
- Additional expertise in physical education or sports coaching can be considered a plus.
