Job Overview
We are seeking a passionate and energetic After-School Counselor to join our dynamic youth programs team. In this role, you will help create a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment for children during after-school hours, Monday through Friday, from 2:30 PM to 6:30 PM.
As you gain experience and demonstrate your skills, you’ll have opportunities to grow beyond After-school Counselor and become a qualified instructor for workshops, birthday parties, science shows, and other STEM programs. This is a great opportunity to build your resume, develop valuable teaching and presentation skills, work with children, and have fun with hands-on science experiments. Qualified instructors can earn $40 per class.
Responsibilities
- Supervise children during after-school hours, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times
- Plan and facilitate engaging youth group activities, including arts and crafts, sports, STEM and outdoor games
- Manage classroom behavior using positive discipline techniques and effective behavior management strategies
- Implement first aid protocols when necessary, including CPR and AED operation, to respond promptly to emergencies
- Support children with special needs by adapting activities and providing inclusive care in collaboration with special education staff
- Lead outdoor work activities safely while promoting environmental awareness and outdoor skills
- Foster a supportive environment that encourages childhood development, teamwork, and social skills among participants
Qualifications
- Prior experience working with children in educational, childcare, camp, or youth program settings is highly preferred
- Knowledge of classroom management techniques and behavior management strategies
- Certification in first aid, CPR, and AED operation is prefered; willingness to obtain or renew certifications if needed
- Experience with special education or working with children with diverse needs is a plus
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage children positively and effectively
- Demonstrated ability to lead youth activities such as theater productions or outdoor adventures
- Background in childhood development or youth programs teaching experience is desirable
