Job Summary The Dispensary Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of a state-licensed retail marijuana establishment authorized to sell both recreational and medical cannabis products. This role ensures full compliance with Colorado Marijuana Enforcement Division (MED) regulations, Colorado Department of Revenue rules, and local licensing requirements, while overseeing staff, inventory, sales, security, and customer service. The Dispensary Manager must hold a valid MED Employee License (“MED Badge”) and, where applicable, local certifications such as a Responsible Vendor Certification. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Operations & Compliance Oversee daily dispensary operations for both recreational and medical sales channels, ensuring compliance with all Colorado MED regulations, Colorado Department of Revenue (DOR) rules, and Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) medical program requirements. Maintain accurate seed-to-sale tracking using the state-mandated inventory tracking system (e.g., METRC), including reconciliation of inventory discrepancies. Ensure all employees maintain active, valid MED Employee Licenses and required local certifications prior to performing plant-touching duties. Verify customer/patient age and, for medical sales, valid Colorado medical marijuana registry card status, in accordance with state law. Maintain compliance with packaging, labeling, purchase limits, and product testing requirements for both recreational and medical products. Prepare for and support state and local compliance inspections and audits; maintain required recordkeeping. Implement and enforce security protocols, including surveillance, alarm systems, and cash-handling procedures consistent with MED security requirements. Staff Management , train, schedule, and supervise budtenders, receptionists, and other dispensary staff. Conduct performance evaluations, coaching, and disciplinary actions as needed. Train staff on compliance requirements, responsible vendor practices, product knowledge, and customer service standards. Sales & Customer Service Drive sales performance and achieve revenue targets across both recreational and medical product lines. Resolve escalated customer and patient concerns or complaints. Monitor point-of-sale (POS) systems and daily sales reporting. Inventory & Vendor Management Manage product ordering, receiving, and inventory levels; coordinate with licensed cultivators, processors, and distributors. Conduct regular physical inventory counts and investigate variances. Ensure proper storage, handling, and rotation of cannabis products to maintain quality and compliance. Qualifications Must be at least 21 years of age. Valid Colorado MED Employee License (“MED Badge”) required prior to start date, or ability to obtain one immediately upon hire. Responsible Vendor Certification required where mandated by local jurisdiction (e.g., City of Denver). High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree in business or related field preferred. 2+ years of retail or dispensary management experience preferred; prior cannabis industry experience strongly preferred. Working knowledge of Colorado marijuana laws, MED regulations, and CDPHE medical marijuana program requirements. Must pass a background check in accordance with MED licensing requirements (certain felony convictions, particularly within the past five years, may be disqualifying). Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Proficiency with point-of-sale and inventory tracking systems (e.g., METRC, dispensary POS platforms). Ability to work in an environment with exposure to cannabis plant material and associated odors. Manual dexterity sufficient to handle currency, packaging materials, and product safely and accurately. Ability to respond quickly to security or emergency situations, including reaching alarm systems or exits as needed. Work Environment Work is performed primarily indoors in a retail dispensary setting, with regular exposure to cannabis products and odor. Noise level is typically moderate, consistent with a retail environment. Security cameras and monitoring are present throughout the facility, consistent with MED security requirements.
