Position Scope:
The Missionary role utilizes the proven church-planting methodology of the Communitas network, engaging in the phases of embedding, initiating, practicing, maturing, hubbing, and extending to cultivate a healthy church and a thriving community of shared life and mission. While grounded in this framework, the Field Worker is expected to exercise discernment and flexibility in adapting ministry strategies to the unique cultural, social, and spiritual context of the area of service.
Specific responsibilities and ministry activities will vary according to the location, opportunities, and ministry needs of the assigned field. Unless otherwise specified, the Missionary position is considered a pastoral role and is therefore classified as clergy, carrying out the ecclesiastical, pastoral, and sacerdotal duties associated with ordained ministry.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide spiritual leadership, discipleship, and mentorship to team members, cultivating a culture of faith, mission, personal growth, and shared purpose.
- Model a Christ-centered life through servant leadership, integrity, humility, and active participation in the mission of the church.
- Guide ministry decisions, relationships, and practices in accordance with Biblical teachings, organizational values, and sound pastoral judgment.
- Develop and implement intentional evangelistic strategies that engage the target community, create opportunities for outreach, and foster meaningful relationships with those outside the church.
- Identify, equip, and mobilize local leaders and volunteers to participate in disciple-making, community engagement, and church-planting efforts.
- Establish and nurture a missionally focused community of faith that progresses toward a sustainable and reproducing church plant.
- Collaborate with organizational leadership, ministry partners, and local stakeholders to advance ministry objectives and strengthen community impact.
- Maintain regular communication with leadership regarding ministry progress, challenges, opportunities, and resource needs.
- Perform pastoral, ministerial, and sacerdotal functions consistent with the role of clergy and the mission of the organization.

- In full agreement with the Communitas Statement of Faith and committed to advancing the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
- Willing to affirm and operate in accordance with Communitas's position papers and ministry philosophy as published by the organization.
- Passionate about sharing life with others through an incarnational and missional approach to ministry.
- Demonstrates an understanding of group-based ecclesiology and the role of disciple-making communities in fostering spiritual growth and mission engagement.
- Possesses the ability to connect with, understand, and effectively minister among emerging generations and those who may be exploring new expressions of church and community.
- Knowledgeable of the challenges, needs, and worldview of contemporary postmodern culture, with the ability to communicate the Gospel effectively and build authentic relationships within diverse cultural contexts.
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to discipleship and leadership development, with a conviction that small-group ministry is a vital component of a healthy and thriving community of believers.

Funding:
All of our Missionary roles are support funded. Communitas will help with coaching and support as the Missionary develops a support base. Once selected as a Missionary, a Support Plan will be developed and the new staff member will be required to raise 80% of the support before launching into the above ministry related responsibilities.
