A leading multidisciplinary engineering consultancy is seeking a Senior Bridge Design Engineer to join its growing New York transportation practice.
This position will support major bridge and infrastructure projects, including bridge replacements and rehabilitations, complex highway interchanges, roadway reconstruction, and public-space improvements.
The successful candidate will lead bridge design teams, provide technical oversight, and deliver complex AASHTO-based projects within both design-build and design-bid-build environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and review of bridge and transportation structures
- Serve as Package Lead or Engineer of Record on bridge design packages
- Oversee plans, specifications, calculations, quantities, and design criteria
- Ensure designs meet AASHTO LRFD, NYSDOT, and local agency standards
- Manage design schedules and project milestones
- Lead and mentor bridge engineers and CAD designers
- Coordinate with highway, traffic, geotechnical, drainage, and lighting teams
- Review constructability and resolve complex technical challenges
- Support construction through shop drawing reviews, RFIs, field changes, and as-built documentation
- Lead technical development for design-build pursuits
- Conduct QA/QC reviews of project deliverables
- Coordinate with clients, agencies, and project stakeholders
Required Experience:
- 10–15 years of bridge or transportation structures design experience
- Experience delivering multi-span steel and concrete bridge projects
- Strong background in new bridge design, rehabilitation, and load rating
- Proven ability to lead multiple bridge design teams
- Strong knowledge of AASHTO LRFD and relevant bridge design codes
- Experience producing construction documents for design-build and design-bid-build projects
- Familiarity with bridge design software and CAD standards
- Experience with NYSDOT standards and local transportation agencies
- Strong technical, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced design environment
Education and Licensing:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Master's degree preferred
- Professional Engineer license in New York, or the ability to obtain it within six months
- Ability to obtain a New Jersey PE license preferred
