Vital Signs Resource Management (VSRM) is seeking an experienced and strategic Chief Operating Officer (COO) to oversee operations for two democratic physician groups: Emergency Medical Specialists (EMS) and Peak Medical Care (PMC). This position reports directly to the President and CEO of VSRM. The COO will drive operational excellence, organizational growth, financial performance, and physician engagement across the organizations that it manages. This position requires significant coordination with physician leadership in both EMS and PMC.
This is a key executive leadership role for a collaborative healthcare leader passionate about supporting physician-led practices and delivering exceptional patient care. This position does not offer a hybrid or remote work option and will require relocation to the Southern Colorado market with a primary office location in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Key Responsibilities
· Participate in multi-year strategic planning process. Translate organizational objectives into specific departmental strategies and actionable plans.
· Remain current on healthcare trends and monitor emerging developments in independent physician group practice and logistics.
· Establish and help monitor performance metrics and KPIs for group and practice performance. Work with physician leaders on monitoring and optimizing metrics/statistics.
· Work closely with the CFO on compensation models, tax planning, financial analysis, legal issues, etc.
· Review, monitor and negotiate hospital contracts including Emergency Services and Medical Direction agreements. Foster trusted relationships with hospital management and key stakeholders.
· Work with partners in Coding/Billing and revenue cycle management to include contracting with third party payers, strategies utilizing IDR, non-medical insurance payors and collections. Work with physician leaders on MIPS and CEDR initiatives.
· Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation, encouraging teams to identify and implement best practices. Cultivate a strategy to keep group physicians in leadership positions. Explore and develop opportunities for business and leadership education for members.
· Recruit, develop, and retain top talent within the group's operational teams, building a skilled workforce dedicated to our mission.
· Ensure robust compliance with all regulations and quality standards, maintaining a safe and high-performing environment. Coordinate response to legal issues and claims.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, or related field (MBA/MHA preferred).
- Previous experience as a COO, CAO, Senior Vice President, or similar executive role in a physician practice, medical group, or healthcare services organization.
· Experience navigating competing priorities and achieving results through relationships, negotiation and credibility.
- Strong knowledge of physician practice operations, revenue cycle management, and healthcare contracting.
- Demonstrated success leading teams, driving growth, and improving organizational performance.
- Proficiency with Excel, Power BI, and Tableau.
- Emergency Medicine leadership experience preferred.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range $300,000-$450,000 depending on qualifications
