Under the general direction of the Executive Director, the Director of Housing, the Director of Social Services, the Kauhales operate in conjunction with the State of Hawai’i to provide respite and home for the houseless communities they serve. The Shelter Manager position is responsible for the primary administrative role.
The Shelter Manager for the Kauhale shelter site will be responsible for the following:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the site, ensuring smooth functioning and efficient management.
- Manage and supervise a team of employees, providing guidance, training, and support as needed.
- Conduct weekly meetings with the full staff.
- Hold weekly meetings with Director of Housing; and other Directors as needed.
- Develop and implement strategies to maximize occupancy rates. Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and fair-housing guidelines.
- Handle resident inquiries, complaints, and conflicts in a professional and timely manner.
- Conduct regular inspections of the property to identify maintenance needs and ensure a safe and attractive environment for residents.
- Conduct regular inspections of company equipment and ensure maintenance and safety.
Maintain accurate records and files related to resident information, housing agreements, and maintenance requests.
- Utilize software (e.g., M365, Sharepoint) for data entry, reporting, and analysis.
All work is to be conducted under a trauma-informed lens, with a harm-reduction mindset. Crisis intervention, de-escalation training, fire safety, first aid, CPR training, and other trainings are all required.
This position will also assist with inventory of equipment, supplies, and collateral material. As a Resident Navigator, you must be available to assist with events, at the Kauhale, under the direction of the Director of Housing.
The Shelter Manager position requires weekend and on-call availability, including but not limited to ensuring staff shift coverage.
Under the general direction of the Executive Director, or superiors, you may be assigned duties to help focus on productivity for general office tasks to achieve efficiency and improve time management for this and other positions at the kauhale.
Pay: $24.00 - $27.00 per hour
