Optician
Suburban Associates in Ophthalmology is a leading, physician-owned, multi-specialty ophthalmology practice proudly serving the Northwest suburbs of Chicago. We are seeking an experienced, customer-focused Optician to join our growing team.
This opportunity is available as either a full-time or part-time position, depending on the qualifications and availability of the right candidate. The primary work location will be our Arlington Heights office; however, candidates must be flexible and willing to work at all three of our locations, including Elk Grove Village and Hoffman Estates, as needed. Two Saturday morning shifts are also required.
The ideal candidate is personable, detail-oriented, and passionate about delivering exceptional patient care while helping patients select eyewear and lenses that best meet their visual needs and lifestyle.

Responsibilities
- Deliver outstanding customer service and ensure an exceptional patient experience.
- Assist patients with selecting frames, lenses, and lens coatings based on prescription, lifestyle, and personal preferences.
- Take accurate optical measurements, including pupillary distance (PD), segment height, bridge size, temple length, and other fitting measurements.
- Verify finished eyewear meets prescription specifications using optical equipment.
- Prepare and process laboratory work orders for eyeglass fabrication.
- Adjust, repair, and fit eyeglasses for optimal comfort and vision.
- Educate patients on the proper use and care of eyeglasses and contact lenses.
- Assist with contact lens ordering, dispensing, and patient instruction.
- Determine current lens prescriptions using a lensometer when needed.
- Process insurance information and maintain accurate patient records in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Perform inventory management, sales transactions, and other administrative duties.
- Reconcile monthly statements and assist with general office operations.
- Apply Fresnel prisms as directed by the physician.
- Support reception duties at the Hoffman Estates office as needed to maintain full-time hours.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 1 years of optical experience.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Experience with EHR systems and strong computer proficiency.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Flexibility to work at all three office locations: Arlington Heights, Elk Grove Village, and Hoffman Estates.
- Availability for two Saturday morning shifts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience determining appropriate contact lens type and base curve based on patient needs, refraction, and keratometry readings.
- Knowledge of contact lens fitting and dispensing procedures.
- ABO certification is a plus but not required.
